GyroGlove – An Ingenious Solution to Hand Tremors

Published May 15, 2024

Hand tremors caused by Parkinson’s disease, tremors, and other neurological conditions can affect your fine motor skills, impair your mobility, and reduce your quality of life to a significant extent. The constant, uncontrollable shaking of your hands can make even simple tasks like eating a meal, writing a letter, or getting dressed seem challenging.

The good news is that emerging technologies are providing hope for those affected by Parkinson’s and other neurological disorders. The most notable among these innovations is the GyroGlove. This wearable device controls and stabilizes hand tremors and allows you to do what you want without depending on others.

The Story behind GyroGlove

The GyroGlove, the world's most advanced hand stabilizer, was unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, where it received three distinguished CES 2024 Innovation Awards. The device was developed by GyroGear, a UK-based startup founded by Dr. Faii Ong. With a background in medicine, science, and bioengineering, Dr. Ong is passionate about helping people battling hand tremors and improving their quality of life.

When he was a medical trainee, Dr. Ong encountered a 103-year-old woman in London struggling with hand tremors. Upon seeing her helpless condition, Dr. Ong decided to develop a solution to the problem and help those who could not live a normal life because of their shaky hands. It was the starting point that led to the founding of GyroGear.

At CES 2024, GyroGlove received three awards in three different categories—Accessibility & Aging Tech, Digital Health, and Wearable Technologies.

How the GyroGlove Works

The glove uses advanced gyroscopic stabilization to combat hand tremors, providing a steady hand and the freedom to perform everyday tasks. GyroGlove consists of three key components—the fabric glove, the gyroscopic stabilization module, and a battery system. You can put it on just like you would put on a regular glove, although GyroGlove is slightly bulkier. The custom-designed twist and lock mechanism produces a strong mechanical coupling, making the glove snugly fit your hands.

Once you put it on, you can hear and feel the constant whir of the gyroscope, which is spinning constantly. The counteracting force stabilizes your tremors so you can move your hands freely and perform daily tasks like drinking coffee, buttoning up your shirt, and eating more easily.

Design and Features

The GyroGlove boasts a user-friendly interface, comfortable touch points, and a design that includes oversized mounts and a magnetic connector for ease of use. It is designed to be durable and practical for daily activities, with a washable harness, easy-to-clean surfaces, and IP65 waterproof protection.

The glove is lightweight, breathable, and stretchable fabric and can be worn comfortably daily. When worn on the hand, it feels soft and spongy. The fabric is also quite sturdy and can last long if maintained properly.

During research, the company benchmarked the fabric against the world's best yoga and sportswear brands. The glove has a user-friendly interface and is very easy to use—even if you are not tech-savvy.

The battery pack features an oversized charging point, which makes for easy, hassle-free charging. It can power the device continuously for four hours on a single charge. The battery can last 10 hours on a single charge if used intermittently. The battery pack comes with global adapters to keep your device fully charged anywhere.

Innovative Technology

GyroGlove utilizes the principle of gyroscopic stabilization to counteract hand tremors and provide greater control and stability to individuals affected by Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders.

The core technology of the GyroGlove is a high-performance mechanical gyroscope, roughly the size of a hockey puck, which provides gyroscopic stabilization to counteract hand tremors. In a comfortable, wearable package, this technology draws inspiration from aerospace and Formula 1 racing.

When the glove detects tremor movements, the built-in gyroscope automatically generates counteracting forces to stabilize your hand. By exerting equal and opposite torques to the tremor-induced movements, the glove can effectively cancel out the uncontrollable shaking and allow you to use your hands like you normally would.

The gyroscope in GyroGlove is designed to rotate extremely fast. The company says it can rotate four times faster than a jet turbine blade. Over three years, the glove's estimated lifespan, the gyroscope will approximately rotate 11 billion times.

A neodymium PMS motor, designed and developed by some of the best minds in Imperial College and Cambridge, powers the device. The design and development team says they also got inputs from the professors at Harvard-MIT, Oxford, and even NASA.

GyroGlove—An Eco-Friendly Solution to Hand Tremors

According to GyroGear, the glove does not contain synthetic adhesives or other substances that can harm the environment. Instead, they have used water-based adhesives and limestone-based alternatives that are biologically and ecologically friendly.

Refund Policy and Warranty

One selling point of GyroGlove is its refund policy. The company says that if you are unsatisfied with their glove’s performance, you can return it to them within 30 days (from the date of purchase) and get a refund. GyroGear also offers a one-year warranty on GyroGlove.

GyroGlove – A Non-Invasive, Drug-Free Solution to Hand Tremors

GyroGlove is a first-of-its-kind gyroscopic stabilizing device that can help individuals struggling with uncontrollable and incurable hand tremors. By utilizing the power of gyroscopic stabilization, this device can provide an effective and reliable solution to the debilitating effects of tremors. It can also empower individuals with this condition to regain confidence and regain control of their lives.

GyroGlove can adapt to your unique needs and preferences and provide a personalized approach to tremor control and management through real-time connection of involuntary movements, customizable settings, and user-friendly design. Apart from enhanced motor control, GyroGlove can reduce frustration, embarrassment, and social isolation and help people with hand tremors live with renewed confidence and autonomy.
