Mission

The Treatment and Learning Centers (TLC) is in the business of improving lives and expanding possibilities for those with special needs in a thoughtful, caring, and individualized manner. TLC meets each person where they are and customize a plan to best foster achievement and growth. It's philosophy of treatment is not one size fits all; each person has their own unique personality and learning style that can be supported to allow the individual to reach their potential to thrive. The team of professionals share knowledge that results in positive outcomes for the individuals and families they serve.

Services Provided

For more than 65 years, The Treatment and Learning Centers has provided services to meet the needs of our community. From its modest beginning in 1950 as a therapeutic center to serve children and adults suffering from the impact of polio, today its “family of services” provides a wide range of programs to assist those they serve and their families.

In 1995, TLC founded the Katherine Thomas School (KTS). KTS provides a high-quality education for students, preschool through high school. Students are able to thrive in a school setting that supports their individual needs. The dream of KTS was made possible by a generous donation by its namesake, Katherine Thomas. View a full list of services.

Number of People Reached

TLC continues to expand the wide range of services to meet the ever-expanding special needs of adults and children. With over 200 staff members at three locations, TLC serves more than 2,000 individuals each year.

How Donations Are Used

Donations go directly into funding The Katherine Thomas School, testing and tutoring services, counseling, speech and occupational therapy, audiology clinic and other services.

Project Spotlight

2020 was the first year that TLC offered a virtual summer camp.  Students were able to attend camp via Zoom and participate in fun and engaging activities virtually, never stopping towards meeting therapeutic goals. It was still fun, and campers gained self-confidence, communication, and social skills alongside the camping staff. The Katherine Thomas School also held virtual extended school year with the help of its team of clinicians, teachers, campers, and students, being flexible and adapting to its new normal.

Interesting Facts

TLC is home to the Feeding Clinic which specializes in pediatric feeding disorders. Clinicians provide feeding therapy services to children from birth through adolescence. All of its therapists are trained in the SOS Approach to Feeding and offers in-person and teletherapy sessions.
