Smartbox believes everyone has the right to a voice. Everything Smartbox does is driven by a passion to improve the lives of people that use our technology.

Products and Services Provided

Smartbox creates technology that gives a voice to people that don’t have speech. Its products include a combination of specialist hardware, software and content and are used by people with disabilities across the world.

Smartbox are the creators of Grid software for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). People use it to communicate, control their environment, use social media, browse the web and access other programs. Grid comes with a wide range of robust resources for communicating with symbols and text, designed by AAC specialists for people of all ages, conditions and levels of literacy.

Smartbox also make Grid Pad communication aids, designed for people with complex access and communication needs. These devices are designed to help people to live more independently using any type of alternative access, including eye gaze, pointers and switch.

Interesting Facts

Smartbox started as a family business in 2006 and today it continues to be led by its founders, with Dougal Hawes as Managing Director and his brother Barney Hawes as Strategy Advisor. They have around 70 people in their team with offices in the UK and US.
