In 1945 Congress designated the first week in October to recognize the skills and contributions of people with physical disabilities. In 1962, the language was broadened to include all disabilities. In 1988, Congress expanded the week to a month and renamed it National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). Since then, National Disability Employment Awareness Month has become an important annual tradition. Throughout the years, this observance has grown into a celebration of our continued efforts to expand employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

Accessibility.com celebrates NDEAM with our partners in accessibility in recognizing the importance of ensuring that people with disabilities have full access to employment and community involvement during the national recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
